Application of BIM to analyze the causes of construction project delays and completions
DOI: https://doi.org/10.3846/mla.2026.27548Abstract
This article analyses the significance of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology for identifying and preventing the causes of delays in construction projects. The research problem is associated with recurring issues in the construction sector, including missed deadlines, design errors, insufficient communication, and delays in institutional approval processes. The aim of the study is to assess the impact of BIM technologies on construction project delays and the project completion process. The article is based on a review of scientific literature and a qualitative expert interview study involving 15 construction sector professionals: 8 representatives of contractors or construction management companies and 7 specialists from design organisations. The results showed that BIM provides the greatest benefits in the areas of early identification of design errors, 3D coordination, common data environments, and 4D planning. At the same time, it was found that the impact of the technology is limited by a lack of specialist competencies, partial implementation of BIM, duplication of work in 2D and 3D environments, and slow institutional approval processes. The article presents an integrated digital model for design, planning, and construction execution based on CDE, BIM, early involvement of institutions, competency development, and feedback from actual project progress.

BIM taikymas statybos projekto vėlavimo ir pabaigimo priežasčių analizei
Santrauka
